A Study on the Learning Nature, Contents and Degree of the Early Part of Clinical Settings in Nursing Students


Abstract
For many years, professional part of nursing education, have been carried out on the actual or simulated settings. It has been believed that the clinical learning provided the opportunities for nursing students to correlate theory and practice. This study was designed to investigate the nature, contents and degree of clinical learning of 99 sophomore nursing students enrolled at Korea University. Hospital from September 28 through November 22, 1977. Data were gathered at the end of their assignment questionaires; which consist of 80 question-items categorised into six group of activities. Results are as follows; 1. Mean experience score reveled to be very low (0.984). 2. Those assigned to medical ward revealed the highest experience score (1.054), followed by obstetric ward (1.019) and surgical wards (1.005). 3. The highest experience score is shown in "assisting diagnostic measures" (2.011) followed by "participating educational activities" (1.201). Recommendations 1. Study on role perception of clinical nurses and role expectation of nursing students to wards clinical teaching in nursing is recommended. 2. Appointment of clinical teaching assistant to head-nurse in each clinical ward is reco¡©mmended to actually take care of teaching tasks in an educational hospital.
